“Eskaton is engaged in a transformation from its roots as a higher-acuity operator to one focused more on lifestyle, wellness and person-centered philosophies. Central to those efforts is a newly revamped staffing model.

That’s according to CEO Sheri Peifer, who the Carmichael, California-based organization promoted from president in late 2023. Since then, Peifer and the organization’s leadership have had their hands full preparing for the company’s “next 50 years” by planning new independent living growth and a shift away from higher acuity skilled nursing care.”

Eskaton, under CEO Sheri Peifer, is transitioning to a  lifestyle and wellness-oriented approach. This shift is supported by a revamped staffing model centered on improving employee retention and professional development through Eskaton Academy, a training program funded by a $3.1 million grant. The academy offers new technical skills training, career development opportunities, and flexible learning options, contributing to an 80% retention rate among participating employees.

Eskaton’s future strategy includes expanding independent living options, modernizing campuses, and fostering new partnerships. The organization is also investing in infrastructure updates and debt refinancing to enhance its communities. Peifer envisions a “hub and spoke” model for growth, with large campuses serving as central hubs for expanding services and supporting independent living.
